Saint Raphael says:
“Within each of you, a vitally important process occurs, which is brought about by the Holy Spirit. He communicates His impulses for good, for peace, and for love to the human spirit; they are a direct emanation of God’s utterly pure mind. These impulses pass through the spirit and reach the soul, which transmits them to the brain. The brain transmits the given orders and impulses to various organs. In this manner, the internally initiated process leads to the elaboration of thoughts, words and gestures, which are then expressed externally through the body.
If human beings put their spirit, soul and body at the disposal of the Holy Spirit and collaborate sincerely and faithfully in divine action, they directly express the action of God externally and manifest His life and greatness. In this collaboration, human intelligence fully expresses itself and actively participates in divine intelligence; consequently, human intelligence increases and strengthens to the extent that humans are willing to open themselves to the presence and action of the Spirit of God. Full submission to the action of the Holy Spirit in you, transforms your mind, making it resemble more and more that of Christ. The more you unite with Christ, the more your life is transformed, elevated and purified from all forms of corruption, which obscure your intelligence and prevent you from knowing the truth. Without truth, you cannot be free.”1
“First of all, it is necessary to distinguish between the intelligence we are talking about and the normal rational process that occurs in every human being. Intelligence, in the deepest sense of the term, is the participation of the human being, as a child of God, in the divine creative intelligence. This intelligence originates from the human spirit, where the Holy Spirit, who communicates Christ’s thoughts, is present. This is where the process of elaboration that goes through the spirit, the soul and the brain, and thus through the body, begins. However, not all are open and willing to welcome the presence of God in them and to receive His thoughts. The spirit of many, especially on Earth, is so closed to God that He has to limit Himself to keeping them alive with His divine breath.
The divine breath is the basic element of life that is present throughout the universe and in every living being.2 In man, created in the image and likeness of God, it also holds the ability to elaborate thoughts, words and gestures, which are essential to survive and manage life. A kind of ‘thinking’ that is necessary for survival is also present in other living beings: it is what you call instinct.
God cannot communicate His mind to people who are closed and unbelieving. They only keep a rational elaboration that no longer comes from the spirit but from the soul. This means that the soul of those who do not believe and reject God becomes independent from the spirit and begins to elaborate its own mind, which is detached from the divine mind.3 The brain receives the soul’s thoughts and converts them into words and actions. Since there are people whose soul has a powerful structure, quite frequently, they also have a powerful mind. Many of the scholars of the Earth, even in the religious field, belong to this kind of people. They arouse the admiration of their peers, who regard them as intelligent and envy them; however, they have to do hard work and extensive studies to attain a partial knowledge of reality. Many of them have that fragmented mind of which we have spoken before4; they are experts in one field but do not know anything about other fields. Some have personality disorders and are unable to solve their personal problems. They are detached from the divine mind. They have great knowledge but lack thorough understanding, which makes them knowledgeable but not intelligent. The Bible teaches in various ways that only those who penetrate the mystery of God are truly intelligent. This occurs only when humans embrace the divine mind and comprehend it within their spirit.
I bless you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”5
