Part I – The spirit of man

04.01.2025

These are Saint Raphael’s words:

The essence of man, his deepest identity, resides in the spirit, in the nucleus at the centre of the soul where the divine Guest lives, the Holy Spirit. The spirit is the most sacred place in the human being. Think of the temple in Jerusalem: its external walls can be compared with the body, the internal courtyards with the soul and ‘the Holy of Holies’ with the spirit.1 Only the High Priest had access to this sacred and inviolable space of the temple. In the same way, only Jesus Christ, the High Priest, has access to your spirit. In virtue of His Sacrifice, the Holy Spirit has been given to you and operates, revealing Christ’s thoughts to you.

In his spirit, man stands face to face with God, as this is the place where God manifests Himself to him. It is your ‘Tent of meeting’, the one in which Moses spoke face to face with God.2 The spirit is the space of your being in which God dwells.

The relationship between spirit and soul is a vital relationship because the spirit gives life to the soul; it transmits to the soul what it has received in turn from the Holy Spirit. The soul elaborates through its three powers, namely memory, intellect and will, what it receives from the spirit and transmits the content to the brain, a physical organ responsible for transforming impulses into commands to be transmitted to the body.”

“You often say, ‘I think, I feel, I act …,’ and you speak in many ways about your EGO. Psychology, religion and movements of various types also speak about it. On Earth, the EGO is equivalent to the identity of the person. In reality, the EGO does not exist as an abstract entity; it is nothing other than your spirit. I repeat that the EGO does not exist in you, while the spirit exists and draws life and strength from God. The human spirit cannot live without God.

The human being was created in the image and likeness of God; this is not a simple statement but a reality. The image of God is imprinted in the memory of the soul3, while the likeness is imprinted in the spirit. The divine nature of the human being is imprinted in the spirit, his likeness to God, which leads him to understand and act in a similar way to God. The spirit encloses the divine spark that makes humans children of God; therefore, a great power acts in them. The human spirit is not only immortal but, in a certain sense, also ‘omnipotent’. Do not forget that man was intended to govern the universe alongside God, as he should have possessed a power akin to that of the Creator.

God wants you to become aware of the power that is in you. He wants to lead all those who love Him to the awareness of their divine nature. In this manner, the children of God will truly live in the image and likeness of God. This will not occur miraculously nor with methods, rites or formulas. It will take place when men and women are able to stand before God with meekness, humility, and patience.”

It is fundamental that each of you has a filial relationship with God, as it should have been from the beginning of your human history. If all had developed according to God’s plan, there would have been a continuous exchange of love between God and humanity. God would have filled human beings with His power, and they would have been immersed in the love and life of God without effort, asceticism, or penance. You know what happened and how Satan’s corruption compromised the relationship between God and man. Jesus Christ has recuperated this relationship through His Death and Resurrection. He placed the entire humanity back into the right relationship with God, eliminating the barriers that original sin had created.

With Jesus Christ, the history of humanity began anew; it has taken the right path in a new and profound dimension. However, just as in the beginning, God once again left man free to choose whether he wanted to accept Jesus Christ. This makes you understand that God trusts His children: by giving them the freedom to choose, without placing restrictions, He recognises their capability to use their intelligence. This is the opposite of what Satan does, whose followers cannot choose anything because they are slaves, forced to obey under penalty of death. Unfortunately, the humanity of the Earth has never understood this. It sold itself to Satan from the beginning, in the foolish illusion that the distance to God would be the guarantee for freedom. What an illusion! Every day, Satan tightens his chains around you, while you do not notice it. You mistake slavery for freedom and turn your back to God, the only One who can make you free. Even today, you are free to accept or reject Jesus Christ. Based on this choice, your destiny is at stake.

God the Father wants to return to the original relationship with those who love Him and offer themselves to Him through Jesus Christ. It will be a real father-child relationship without constraints or impediments and in joyful freedom. These children will be increasingly powerful in God. They will shine like stars in the universe. United with Christ, they will be children of the resurrection4, new men and women because they will be transformed, and in turn, will be capable of transforming the universe. This is not a nice fairy tale but God’s promise in Christ. You just have to believe it.

I bless you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”5

1 In the Jewish religion, the Holy of Holies was the holiest area of the temple of JHWH, in which the Ark of the Covenant was guarded. Only the High Priest could enter it once a year, for the recurrence of Yom Kippur, to offer incense in the ritual of atonement and to pronounce the sacred Tetragrammaton, whose vowels, set between the four consonants, were known only by the High Priest, who would pass them on to his successors.
