Happy Easter to everyone!

On this Easter Sunday, the Easter Season begins; it will be Easter for a week, and then the Easter Season will last another forty days. In this beginning, we see how the first Church welcomes the Risen Christ and begins to announce Christ with great courage. We will see how Jesus prepared the Church for forty days and instructed it for its mission.

From Christ’s Resurrection on, for these men and women, the Church, nothing remained the same as before; their whole life changed in all its aspects. They were totally transformed by the Lord’s Resurrection. When we hear about the new life, the old man dying, the new man being born, we look at that first Church: they were no longer the same. By accepting the Lord’s forgiveness for having run away on the Friday of the crucifixion, by welcoming the Life that conquered death, Life began within them: that was the first day of their life.

We know that Holy Mary and Jesus are the new Eve and the new Adam. With the Redemption they accomplished together, they opened up a new era. The condition humanity had assumed through original sin was no longer there. There was a new possibility of entering completely the Kingdom of God. They established the new alliance with God, the new time. Let us reflect deeply on the greatness of this event.

The Apostles started out as a Church with a single mission: to announce that Christ was risen! They stopped worrying about fishing or other personal matters; they just had to say, “Christ is risen!” because the announcement of the Apostles was simply this. What other difference was there besides this announcement? Now, they lived together, they loved each other, they shared everything, and they lived as one heart and one soul.[1] Why did it happen that masses of people (we read about five thousand, six thousand, seven thousand people) were baptised?[2] Because they saw how the Apostles loved each other.

Thus, we recognise that their lives had changed and that they bore their testimony. They were not theologians; they had not attended the seminary; they had not studied. Apart from two of the Twelve – the Zealot and Bartholomew – all the others were truly simple. The most active were the first witnesses, the shepherds, who were considered the lowest in Israel. Everyone that was around Holy Mary was instructed for forty days, during which Jesus told them the things that He also has told us (read the book The Universe and Its Inhabitants[3]). They waited for Pentecost, and then they left to begin evangelisation. Indeed, they left two by two, because it was a different time, and they probably never saw each other again, and we are here thanks to them.

Now, like them, we too are asked to awaken all those who said “Yes” at the moment of conception: all men and women of goodwill. Indeed, those who were baptised were souls who had said “Yes” at conception. We are asked to do the same and to live as they did. However, for us, the grace has increased compared to theirs because the times of fulfilment are ever closer; because the Heavenly Jerusalem is ever closer; because Jesus is present in His second coming, and the vibrations have intensified. Do not be frightened by the increasing evil. That too is a sign of the living presence of grace, because everything will come out and become visible.

We are asked to believe; all the cells of our body shall shout, “Christ has risen and has conquered the world!” We have to believe in everything we have seen and heard; we too must shout it like the Apostles and respond to all our fears, “Christ is risen. Why should we be afraid?” Announce it to others, “Christ is risen!” Announce it in every difficulty. Instead of feeling helpless in trials, let us say, “Christ is risen!” and let us face the trials with Him.

Why are we afraid? If the trial presents itself as an illness, we will face it by saying, “Christ is risen!” The illness will not have the last word on us. What if it makes us die? We, too, will rise again. “Christ is risen !” We have conquered the world with Him. “Christ is risen!” and, sooner or later, we will all have to give an account for it, as every knee will bow before Him.[4]

What helps us to announce this? We have the Eucharist, and we have Mary Most Holy, who entered the Trinity. We have a Mother in Heaven, who has decided to be in our midst. She is in the Trinity; She is the Mother who made infinite promises, who tells us that, before God, She will obtain for us everything we need. She also made a promise to those who bear this Sign[5], “If you want, I will come and take you with Me.”[6] What more do we want?

When I say that every cell must announce it, it means that every cell of our being must face this fear; believe me, the life of the Risen Christ will begin in us. We have the extraordinary instruments[7], who are at work: they intercede and pray for us; allow them to act and let us shout, “Christ has conquered the world!”

However, the passage also applies to each of us, just as it did to the first Christians: nothing is as it was before. To the extent that our cells realise that Christ has risen, they will no longer allow us to live as before. Our own bodies will no longer let us live as before. Even our mind and our spirit, because we will begin to seek the things that are above, as we have heard from Saint Paul: “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory” (Col 3,1-4). Thus, we will seek His life and His Life is Christ, because our life is dead. We will not wait for Saturday night but for Life, for Christ to return, because when He returns our life will also be revealed.

This is being Christian. I said it yesterday: it is not a religion; it is a way of life[8]: living like Christ and like Mary. Thinking of adapting to being Christians, children of God, trying to adapt also to this world is an effort that only makes us feel bad.

The Risen Christ changes our thoughts; He changes our way of being and living. Therefore, let us change the way we see the family, our work, the way we speak, everything. We are not asked to live together as the first Christians did; each of us may work there where we are, as resurrected people who have changed and are transformed.

If the life of the Risen One enters into us, there is an obligatory passage, given by the law of the spirit: His Life in us must overflow, because none of us can totally contain the life of Christ. That life will lead us to fullness and overflows in everyone according to each one’s uniqueness, as His Life is too big to contain. Therefore, we must communicate it, and live it. In this manner, we become witnesses; we touch this humanity and we add everyone to us. We reach them, and we too become stumbling blocks. We will also see how some people will move away from us while others will approach us. This is normal and part of being Christian.

This is our mission: to allow Life to overflow, to be His hands, His feet, and His eyes. He will make everything new. However, first, shout to yourselves, “Christ is risen!” Do this exercise when you have to face hard times and trials. Do not run away from trials; face them together with the Lord: He is risen; He has overcome the world; He will also win our trials.

My wish for you and for myself is this: my life is buried in Christ, I love Him, I belong to Him, and together with Him, I want to live for Christ, with Christ and in Christ. I can do this because I belong to Him. I want Him to make use of me. I belong to Christ; I am His property. He has conquered me, and I let myself be conquered.

Now let us allow Him to act. Let us testify to this: we, too, have overcome the world together with Christ. We have overcome the old man in us and now await the New Creation. We await being glorified with Him; we look forward to living together with the children of God, who, like us, have chosen Him.

Happy Easter!
