In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
May the grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God the Father and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
And once again, O Father, may Your forgiveness reach every cell of our soul and body; may Your forgiveness open the communication between spirit, soul and body, restore that balance, and bring our whole being back to life, in Your image and likeness. May everything in us vibrate as it did when it was before You at the moment of conception. And may Your forgiveness, through us, reach everything our soul has touched, everything our eyes have seen, our ears have heard, all the people we have named, seen and thought of.
And may Your forgiveness descend upon all men and women of good will who wish to join in this celebration, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Everything we have in life, starting with life itself, everything that the Lord has created, everything we encounter in life, situations, the unfolding of every person’s life, everything – if we give free rein to the Lord – is for the benefit of man, to restore his dignity and to make him what he was in God’s mind: His child, a child of God.
The sacraments, the readings, Medjugorje, the apparitions, the messages, the prayers, everything is for the purpose of bringing us humans back into God’s plan. It is important to remember this and do not make the mistake of thinking that God is there to help us live here on Earth. God is there, God foresees everything, God helps us, but He helps us to return to Him, He helps us to rediscover His image and likeness that is in each of us. And when a path is oriented in this sense, what happens within us is that this image begins to shine until – as now in Medjugorje – the face of Mary shines on our faces and we see it in our brothers and sisters. This is the life that the saints lived, who saw Jesus in the poor, in the dying. This is the path.
Even Purgatory, a gift from God, from His infinite mercy, was created and wanted after redemption by Jesus, when He descended into Limbo and divided Hell, Purgatory and Paradise, precisely because of the continuation of our life – if man had not succeeded in this life in freeing himself from all that is useless, from all that ends, from all that must ultimately be left behind, there is Purgatory –, because even through the passage through Purgatory we can awaken in ourselves the image and likeness of God.
Purgatory is not a place of expiation; I think we have always been taught that. Purgatory is a place of liberation, it is a place of transformation, as it is on Earth. Our whole life must be transformed in order to be ready to enter Paradise now and then the New Creation that is not yet open. So, in Purgatory, one does and retraces all the steps one did not take here. It is not expiation, but transformation. Expiation… is not mathematical: ten sins, a hundred years in Purgatory; five sins… No, it does not work like that. Everything depends on the extent to which we leave behind what is old and turn into new creatures, which is what God has always planned.
In the book “Beyond the Great Barrier”[1], Purgatory is explained with its layers and its path. It is said that it is this place on the way, which starts from the gates of hell, the Sanctuary of Mercy, to the gates of Heaven. And, if we reread it, it also explains what happens at each level. Note that it is the same thing here on Earth.
I will quickly go through it. The first thing to be freed from in Purgatory is sin. Even those in Purgatory still carry the weight of sin; they still have this dimension. In the Sanctuary of Mercy, before the Cross, they go to draw strength to succeed in this. And there, Maristella and Mother Teresa are always present. In the book “Beyond the Great Barrier” we will also read about Padre Pio, who now lives in this dimension in communion with Mother Teresa; but they remain before the throne of God and celebrate Mass continuously.
Ascending, at a certain point in Purgatory, there are St Francis and St Clare. Throughout the journey, souls are always accompanied by their guardian angel. Francis and Clare help people to free themselves from fears, wrong attachments, wrong bonds, to free themselves from everything that still keeps them tied and bent towards the Earth, to free themselves from everything that is earthly, I would say. And if we think about it, Francis and Clare are precisely the example of two souls, of a man and a woman who managed to leave everything behind, who wanted to live not in poverty (we always put it on the level of poverty), but in true wealth: to be free.
Jesus came to set us free. He did not come to make us poor; He came to free us from everything that prevents us from living freedom to the full. If we think about it, everything that is an attachment, everything we are tied to, everything that interests us in a particular way becomes a burden, it pulls us down. Francis and Clare are examples of two people who let go in order to fly; even in Purgatory they help souls in this. If we do this here, we will enter Purgatory at ever higher levels. This is not a joke.
Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life, came to set us free: ‘The Truth will set you free’[2], but He is the Truth, Jesus is the Truth. So, to the extent that we truly let go, Jesus will show us how to become free, not with a cut, but He will lead our whole being to not have those needs, those bonds, because we will bind ourselves more and more to Him and He will free us. He opens us to the true, eternal dimension of the spirit, even when we have to go through concrete things. It is not magic, it is a journey, it is a path.
Then, going up Purgatory – but it is the same here – the Archangels intervene with their priesthood. And what do they help with? They help communion. Throughout the journey in Purgatory, up to that level, God does not allow communion. The soul must do it alone with the help of the saints, the guardian angel, but not among themselves. Why? This is also a grace, because when communion is not free – first of all from sin, and second from all these wrong things, affections, ties, different kinds of love – it does not help but pulls down the souls. So, God who is infinite goodness, infinite love, says to us in Purgatory: ‘Listen, do this part on your own, then we’ll see about communion later’.
The Archangels help us to live communion. There, souls begin to walk together, to understand that they must go forward together to the gates of Heaven. At the gates of Heaven, communion must become the communion of saints. There we meet brothers and sisters from other planets in the Universe, who pass through Purgatory, even though they might not need to, and there we must live in communion with our faithful brothers and sisters, because otherwise we cannot enter Paradise. The last step is communion with our faithful brothers and sisters. Then we enter together with St Peter, the whole procession.
I repeat: here on Earth it is the same thing, and until we are able to live communion among ourselves, we cannot live communion with our faithful brothers and sisters; until we live communion with our faithful brothers and sisters, we cannot make the transition to the glorious encounter with Christ. First eliminate sin, eliminate fears, eliminate affections, not in a human way, I am not telling we now must concentrate in this; but in peace, in serenity, in joy, let God do it, remembering, as St John the Apostle says: ‘Where there is fear, there is no love.’[3]
Never be afraid of God’s judgement. None of us, please, be afraid of God’s judgement, because we love Him. There is no need to be afraid of Him, we just need to let Him act freely. There is no need to be afraid of judgement and there is no need to be afraid of what He is doing while we are on Earth, because everything He does is because He wants us in His image and likeness, He wants us where He is, together with Him in the bosom of the Father. So, with love; where there is love there is no fear, there is no fear of judgement, there is no fear of life, there is no fear of what will happen to us, of what we will eat, of what we will drink, of what we will wear, of how we are going to do something.[4] Let God act freely, for He knows how to carry history forward well; after all, He invented it.
I have spoken about Purgatory, I have spoken about us. Now I want to propose and ask, and also advise: the souls in Purgatory cannot experience communion among themselves, they often do not turn to Mary Most Holy because they are in awe and prefer to look towards us. We have offered our lives to God for God’s plans. God’s plans also include freeing Purgatory, as well as saving what can be saved on all planets and on Earth. So, these souls in Purgatory participate first and foremost in Holy Mass, in our Masses, but they also participate every time each of us, either together or alone, prays; they participate, and what we have recently understood and discovered is that they have a desire to hear our voice. I have told you several times: let us talk to them, invite them, talk to the aborted children, talk to those in Purgatory who are like us, invite them to be baptised. And I think you have always done so, as I did, in your mind. Now I say: let us do it out loud, let us speak to them; they want to hear it. They want to hear when we read the Gospel, the Psalms, they want to hear when we pray the rosary, explain the mystery to them, do not just announce it, explain it to them out loud, explain it to them and pray out loud.
They feed on our songs, they feed on our prayers, they feed on our conversations, and they enjoy hearing us speak. So, even in Mass, it is important to pray aloud: they want to hear us. Many of them do not even know who Jesus Christ is; they are not baptised. So, what is the ‘Our Father’? They want to hear it. Sometimes explain it to them, explain the prayer to them. ‘Hail Mary’: but who is She? Explain it to them. They need to hear it. And then some of them leave very quickly, some of them are immediately baptised when they hear those words and through Baptism, they suddenly find themselves at the gates of Heaven! When they enter, we will have a guardian in Heaven.
We have been asked to be fathers and mothers. That is what it means to be fathers and mothers. Those who have children, especially mothers, used to say that when they prayed in the evening they read a passage from the Gospel or a fairy tale to their child… it is the same thing we have to do with these: be fathers and mothers, explain these things to them as you would explain them to your child, as you would read them to your child, a passage from the Gospel, a passage from a psalm.
You see, in God’s economy, everything contributes to salvation, to eternal life, to full joy. Just as everything in God is truly always a thought of goodness, just as one never looks at the negative side of things, but always manages to transform everything into a dimension of light. That is why there is nothing to fear. Do not be afraid, do not be fearful.
And may Mary Most Holy bless us and bless these souls, bless these children, bless all those who are seeking life, because they have it within them, because they were created by God, by Life. And even if they have not encountered it, they seek it, they desire it. May Mary welcome them into Her Heart and may each of us also open our hearts to these souls, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
