Father Tomislav: Dearest Brothers and Sisters; the theme of today’s reflection is “Stand up and root yourselves in the Living God”.
You certainly wonder: “What is the ‘Church of Jesus Christ of the Universe alive on Earth’? How do we have to behave and organise ourselves?” We will continue to develop these questions in order to understand what the Lord wants from His Church on Earth.
On 11 July we celebrate the Feast of St. Benedict, the Patron Saint of Europe. We will celebrate this feast in a special way. We receive a lot of news of turmoil in Europe, in Italy, etc.; there are many different ways of thinking; it is a war between the spirits and we are enclosed in this war. Christians are at risk of approaching one side or the other while both are unstable. But what happens, actually, at the Feast of the Patron of Europe? Heaven, especially all saints, all righteous of Europe and all martyrs become active, and we are involved in a dynamic of holiness emerging all over Europe.
What did the European saints have in particular? They were rooted in God and had received the Spirit of God. They transformed difficulties, moments of darkness and hostility in opportunities to evangelise. They succeeded in forming a European continent with a Christian culture. We must return to this spirit; God will awake it all over Europe, however, the children of God must participate in His action. Then we will begin to live as the Church of Jesus Christ of the whole universe, which will connect us to the source that can respond to the questions and the problems of the people.
In the Gospel of Matthew it says that Jesus freed people from demons, healed them from all illnesses and disabilities and then said: “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field” (Matt 9:37). This means that He opened the path for the Church, the apostles and the disciples, who became instruments of the action of God, so that Jesus Christ could continue His work through them. Thus, we return to the message of Our Lady to read a part that will serve for our reflection.
“Children, the Church of Jesus Christ must have the characteristics of My Heart: she must be Mother. My first mission is, in fact, to be the Mother of God, the Mother of the children of God and the Mother of My Son’s Church. Therefore, this Church is mother because she continuously generates the children of God; she generates them to life. My Immaculate Heart pours its immaculateness onto the people of God, who must therefore be immaculate. The Church of Jesus Christ is thus mother, and it is immaculate. It is a missionary Church that incessantly and powerfully announces the Kingdom of God.
Children, do not be deceived by things that you unfortunately hear from the mouth of high representatives of the official Church: they speak of “an outgoing Church; the Church as a field hospital”. It is not that. The mission of the Church is to continuously generate the children of God to the life of the Most Holy Trinity. Thus, they become righteous, free, able to choose good and reject evil, to go towards every child of God to give him life.”
Let us begin from the words that Our Lady has addressed to us. She is in God. Because She, the Immaculate, is in God She generates continuously; She tells us that the Church must be the Mother who generates and that she must be immaculate. The Church that announces the Passion of Christ and gives testimony of the resurrection has the power to generate. The new Church, the one that has descended among us from Heaven, that is, “The Church of Jesus Christ of the Universe” already living on Earth is called to desire immaculateness, but she can only achieve this through Mary. Therefore, it is not enough to call on Mary for our needs; the deepest need of each one of us is to be like Her. Then we enter a magnetic field, so to say, where we are protected by immaculateness and all the impulses of the Holy Spirit within us can act.
Therefore, the Church of Jesus Christ on Earth must take the path of the Immaculate Mother Mary, enter into full communion with Her and be elevated through Her beyond any provocation, difficulty or threat. The Church has the possibility to elevate herself to God, be rooted in the One who has defeated in God death and corruption. This must be the choice of the Church of Jesus Christ on Earth to transform all difficulties in the way we have heard in the Beatitudes.
The Church of Jesus Christ on Earth participates in the Heavenly Liturgy; this must occur through the participation in the immaculate life of Mary and in communion with the extraordinary and the sublime instruments.[1]
We have read the story of Jacob’s wrestle with God as it is described in Genesis chapter 32. I will read it out for you so that you may observe it from a different angle; however, it is very well explained in the book “The Universe and Its Inhabitants”.[2] There it is explained that the one who fought against Jacob was St. Michael who said:
“’Let me go, for it is daybreak.’ But Jacob replied, ‘I will not let you go unless you bless me.’ The man asked him, ‘What is your name?’ ‘Jacob,’ he answered. Then the man said, ‘Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.’”
After the fight came the blessing. I think we can deduce that it was a battle for the blessing of God; finally St. Michael blessed Jacob.
You may remember that Jacob received the blessing of his father, Isaac, through a trick of his mother. Jacob experienced many trials that God permitted, but that was not enough. The daily trials are not enough for us. It is necessary that the “Living Church of Jesus Christ of the universe on Earth” is tested by the extraordinary instruments. What does that mean? We have said that St. Michael is the precursor of the coming of Jesus Christ which means that he is preparing us. Such a powerful and luminous Archangel touches us in our innermost place. Jacob asked for the blessing of the Archangel. Our fight should be to defeat our egoism, our egocentrism and our worries to elevate ourselves to the blessing which allows us to live our full identity and mission in God. All chosen people have been tried like that.
In Psalm 17 the psalmist prays: “Hear me, Lord, my plea is just; listen to my cry. Hear my prayer—it does not rise from deceitful lips.” It means that he does not intend to deceive. He continues: “Let my vindication come from you; may your eyes see what is right. Though you probe my heart, though you examine me at night and test me, you will find that I have planned no evil; my mouth has not transgressed” (Psalms 17:1-3).
This Church is asked to adopt an approach that stands above psychoanalysis, psychotherapy. The fire of the Holy Spirit shall descend on our unconscious, as psychology says; it shall descend on our spirit and purify everything within us.
This Church must be purified if she wants to be elevated, if she wants to respond to the challenges of this time. She must be born in God the way God wanted her. This is the wonderful commitment God suggests to us. We may help the people who do not know where to go even though they call themselves Christians. They may be seeking help here and there today doing the opposite tomorrow, being tossed about as they do not know the way.
We are called to elevate and root ourselves in the living God. This is the meaning of our communion with the Church of the whole universe so that her power may descend among us and into each one of us, letting us feel this power and light so that we may carry it to the whole Church, to all believers in Jesus Christ and all men of good will.
As we have said many times, God acts through His collaborators. I have underlined Mary Most Holy, now I add St. Joseph and the extraordinary instruments provided by God for this time. We will not be able to elevate ourselves if we do not always live in communion with them. This is the future of the Church of the Earth; she will have all the power and the potential. Have the courage to choose this path!
I bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
